International Conference on
“Emerging Trends and Themes in English Language and Literature”
[ICETTELL]

4 & 05 December 2019

Call for Papers

  • Southasian English Language & Literature Teachers Association [SELLTA] in collaboration with PG & Research Department of English, Bishop Heber College (Autonomous), Tiruchirappalli, TN organises the International Conference on “Emerging Trends and Themes in English Language and Literature” [ICETTELL] during 04 & 05 December 2019.

  • Original, innovative and previously unpublished research articles are invited.

  • Selected papers will be published in UGC CARE-Listed Journal.

Concept Note

English, a lingua franca in the country, has attained a status much higher than the Indian languages. Despite this being the medium of instruction for many students in the country, the language still eludes many of them. There are many new approaches coming up to confront the challenges and make the language learning easier for students but the stark reality remains the same or rather say gets worse day by day. The education report of 2018 states that class five and class eight students cannot even read the class two textbook. While language learning through technology is highly recommended and discussed on one side, our language classrooms present a grim picture of inadequacy in terms of our efforts to actualize the already existing methodologies and also insist on bringing out more practical approaches to English language teaching.

As for literature, its objective does not stop with giving an understanding of peoples and cultures but also extends to arousing difficult and disturbing questions in the readers. The comprehensive and critical readings of literature and the various approaches to it help the readers find plausible answers to the haunting questions which may be an essential element in our effort to fighting the horrific socio-political climate. The critical readings of literature do bridge the gap between the individual readers and the society and thereby pave way for a better humanitarian world.

This conference aims to provide discursive space for students, researchers and Professors to acquaint themselves with the new trends in language and literature, understand the different approaches to them and analyze the gaps and practical issues in language and literary studies. The desired outcome is the awareness of the challenges and the possibilities in ELT and Literary studies and finding means to explore them which will pave way for further research.
